Ryder- 11 months old

We can't believe his first birthday is in less than a month! Everyone told us that they grow up fast, but this was the fastest year of our lives! Here's an update on what's new with the little man.
  • He's still cruising around the house like crazy! He will actually crawl to a piece of furniture so he can walk where he wants to go. Still isn't walking quite yet, but we work on it daily.
  • Standing unassisted for longer periods of time.
  • Babbling up a storm! Lots of babababa's! That seems to be his word of choice. Every now and then I'll hear something that sounds like uh oh...but I think it's a fluke. He also loves to do a high pitch scream. It's really cute! Sometimes when he's babbling, he'll start doing it in a whisper that's hysterical. We kind of like it since some of his babbling can get really loud! :)
  • He's eating just about anything I put in front of him. Loves: blueberry & cinnamon waffles, pancakes, french toast, cantaloupe, strawberries, watermelon, bananas, pizza rolls, chicken nuggets, my homemade beef stew, carrots, yogurt, cereal bars and anything he can snack on like goldfish, all the gerber graduates snacks (trust me we have tried them all), teddy grahams, cheerios, etc. He's not sure he likes: Peas or turkey (sometimes he will eat these and sometimes he won't) Does not like: Raviolis or anything in the noodle family (he just squishes it in his hands)
  • He's learned how to use a sippy cup and loves the gerber splasher's water (which is purified water with a splash of fruit juice)
  • He's also started holding his own bottle finally! He grabs his bottle from me now, and tips his head back and gobbles it down in nothing flat. But, he does still like to sit in my lap while he drinks his bottles...which I like!!! :)
  • He's down to 3 bottles a day which is about 18 ounces of formula a day. We only have a few more weeks to go and we can switch him to regular cow's milk. That is going to be so much easier and cheaper!!!!!
  • We have no idea what he weighs now, but we would suspect he's about 24 pounds. He can wear 12-18 month clothes with no problem. And, his feet finally grew. I took him to Nordstroms last week to get him some shoes. They measured his foot, he's a 4.5 wide. So his feet are finally big enough for "real" shoes. He got a really cute pair of Stride Rites...which he seems to like. He doesn't try to pull them off.
  • He hasn't picked up waving or clapping just yet. I work with him on these kinds of things every day. He watches me do them, but just doesn't seem interested in doing them at all. He kind of looks at me like, "whatever!" :) He will still give high fives when he wants to. :) We have learned that HE will not do anything until HE wants to. Once he decides he's ready, it doesn't take him long at all to pick it up. Just like the bottle holding...he waited 11 months to even attempt to hold it, but one day he just decided it was time. :) That's our little man!
  • One new thing he has learned is how to throw a ball. He's actually very good at picking up a ball and throwing in your direction. I think this is something he picked up at Little Gym.
  • He's very "boyish", he loves to destroy things already. He picks up his big toys and loves to turn them over or even throw them.
  • He still loves to cuddle and gives lots of hugs and kisses. Although you never know when he's coming in for a kiss if it's going to be a real kiss or a bite. :)
  • He's biting and drooling AGAIN!!! Which makes me think we have more teeth coming in. He's got 4 teeth right now. We are watching him for signs of new teeth coming through. Poor little guy!

He's growing like crazy, and seems to do something new every day. He doesn't enjoy his jumper as much as he used to. He would prefer to be on the floor where he can be "on the move." He's very "busy" now and keeps us on our toes!
